Why people stay in Delmar

Delmar is technically a hamlet within the Town of Bethlehem, but for visitors it functions as its own walkable village. The Four Corners intersection (Delaware Ave and Kenwood Ave) is the center, with a genuine small-town commercial cluster — bookstore, coffee shop, bakery, hardware store, luncheonette, wine shop — all in a two-block radius. At 9pm most storefronts are closed but the neighborhood feels safe and alive with dog walkers.

For families with young kids, Delmar is one of the most honest options in the region: quiet, safe, walkable within the village, and 15 minutes from downtown Albany museums. Skip it if your idea of a good trip involves nightlife or dining variety — the restaurant options at 9pm on a Tuesday are limited to two or three places, and none are ambitious.

There are essentially no big hotels in Delmar proper — a couple of B&Bs and Airbnbs in the Elsmere and Adams Street residential blocks run $115-175 a night. For chain-hotel comfort, the Hampton Inn is technically in Slingerlands (adjacent hamlet) and runs $125-165. Avoid Airbnb listings that describe themselves as "Delmar area" but are actually in Selkirk or Ravena — they’re 10+ minutes further out. Free street parking overnight is universal.
