Getting there
Drive time is 35 to 45 minutes up I-87 (the Northway). Amtrak's Adirondack and Ethan Allen trains run once daily each direction for about $15 one-way, but the station is 15 minutes from Broadway and taxis are scarce — the car is easier. Parking in downtown Saratoga is free on side streets and $5 in the Woodlawn lot.
What to do
In summer (late July to Labor Day), the Saratoga Race Course is the main event. General admission is $10, post time 1pm most days. Off-season, hit the Saratoga Spa State Park for the Roosevelt Baths (a 40-minute mineral soak is $30) and the free Peerless Pool grounds. The National Museum of Racing on Union Avenue ($10) is small but excellent, and the Tang Museum at Skidmore College is free.
