Book Menands if you have an early flight out of ALB and a late meeting or dinner in Albany or Troy the night before. Skip Menands if you want walkable dinner. Broadway has three or four passable places to eat — a diner, a Chinese-American spot, a pizzeria — and that is essentially it. You will drive to every meal, either south to Delaware Avenue and Center Square or east across the bridge to Troy. That is fine if you planned to drive; disappointing if you assumed you would walk.
Also skip it for a first-time Albany trip focused on Empire State Plaza, the museum and the Capitol. You are only 6 minutes away by car, but a downtown or Center Square hotel puts you in walking range of all three plus the restaurants, and the price gap has narrowed in recent years. Menands is a smart second-visit choice; it is rarely the best first-visit choice.

Versus downtown Albany: Menands is cheaper, easier to park, further from restaurants, faster to the airport. Downtown wins if walking to dinner matters; Menands wins if you have a car and value time saved on the airport run. Versus Colonie (Wolf Road): Colonie has 40 restaurants within a mile, better hotel selection, and Colonie Center mall; Menands is closer to the Capitol by 8 minutes and closer to Troy by 15. If your itinerary skews Albany-Troy, Menands. If it skews shopping-and-airport, Colonie.
Versus Watervliet across the bridge: Watervliet is smaller, has fewer hotels, and puts you closer to the Watervliet Arsenal and the Congress Street Bridge into Troy. Timing: Menands has no seasonal peaks of its own but rides the Albany calendar.
