What to expect at Nipper the RCA Dog
Nipper is the four-ton, 25-foot-tall Jack Russell terrier statue perched on top of what is now the Arnoff Moving warehouse at 991 Broadway in North Albany. Installed in 1954 as an advertisement for the RCA Victor distribution warehouse (Nipper being the famous 'His Master's Voice' RCA mascot), he's the largest surviving RCA Nipper in the world and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He is beloved by Albany in the way certain cities love their weird oversized objects, and he lights up in white LED at night.
There's no visit as such — Nipper is a photograph stop, five minutes off the highway or a genuine 15-minute detour north of downtown along Broadway. Best angles are from the parking lot of the Miss Albany Diner across the street (a great local breakfast spot in its own right) or from the corner of Broadway and Loudonville Road. Get out of the car, take the photo, admire briefly. Kids love it, especially explaining that no, it does not bark.
Combine with a proper Miss Albany Diner breakfast (across the street, open 06:00-14:00, cash preferred, $8-15). If you're driving to or from Cohoes Falls, the Menands farmers market, or Ten Broeck Mansion, Nipper is essentially on the way. Not worth a special trip alone unless you're an Albany completist or have a child who likes very large dogs.
